How to change the connection point geometry for symbols

How to change the connection point geometry for symbols

In order to change the port symbol, please follow the below steps. The below includes an example on how to change the port symbol to a circle.

Identifying the Port Block Name

1. Please open the Blocks palette within HyDraw by typing in 'BLOCKSPALETTE' into the command line and hitting Enter.

2. Select the 'Current Drawing' tab and find the X symbol that is used for ports. The name of the block should be 'Port' unless changed within the template. Below it is a circle and has already been changed:

Changing the Geometry of the Port

1. Select the circle (or other desired geometry) command (located in the drafting menu) and insert a circle to the size of your choosing. I made this easy and inserted it directly over the X mark to match the size by using the Reference points for the center of the X and the edge of the X to match the center of the circle and outer edge of the circle.

2. Once created, assign to the PORT_SYM layer by selecting the circle and selecting the layersdrop-down from the Drafting menu, changing the layer to PORT_SYM.

3. Now we need to replace the block itself. Go into the 'Insert' tab and select 'Create Block'

4. In the pop-up, you will want to specify which item will be the new port (the circle) and then hit enter once specified. Then you will want to type in the same name of the Port as identified in the first set of instructions (block name by default should just be Port)

5. Select 'Ok' and in the pop-up that appears, select 'Redefine Block' to replace all versions of this block:

6. Select the insertion point (center of the circle). The symbols for the internal connection points should now be defined as a circle.

This will update the circle on the current drawing. If you want a permanent solution, you will want to save it as a new dwt template file that can be used in the future so that you can avoid these steps each time you start a drawing.
