How to Save Symbols and Model Data to My Library in NetSkeme Plus

How to Save Symbols and Model Data to My Library

NetSkeme Plus users can save symbols and model data to a personal custom library called My Library. This article explains the different ways to save symbols — whether from a drawing, from NetSkeme Supplied Data, or from custom symbols created in Build Symbol mode.

About My Library

My Library is your personal storage area for custom symbols and model data.

  • You can create folders and organize content however you like.
  • Items can be saved with or without model data.
  • Linked items help conserve storage and stay automatically updated.

Notes
NetSkeme Plus users are allocated 1 GB of storage for My Library.

Save a Symbol From a Drawing

  1. Right‑click the symbol in your drawing.
  2. Select Edit Model Data.
    • The Property Manager opens.
  3. Review or modify the model data as needed.
    • You can fetch data from the library, add or remove properties, or manually edit values.
  4. Select Save to My Library.
  5. When the Library Explorer opens, choose an existing folder or create a new folder.

  6. Save the symbol.

Idea
Creating folders early helps keep your library organized as it grows.

Result: The symbol and its associated model data appear in My Library.

Save a Symbol From NetSkeme Supplied Data (Without Model Data)

  1. Open the Library Explorer.

  2. Navigate to the desired symbol in NetSkeme Supplied Data.
  3. Right‑click the symbol and select Open Property Manager.

  4. Make any optional changes.
  5. Save the symbol to My Library without model data.

  6. Symbols without associated data will be denoted by "None" in the model data pane of the Library Explorer.

Notes
Saving without model data is useful when you want a clean, unconfigured version of a symbol.

Save a Symbol With Model Data From NetSkeme Supplied Data

  1. In NetSkeme Supplied Data, select a model code.
    • The symbol list filters to show only symbols associated with that model code.

  2. Right‑click on the symbol and open the Property Manager.
  3. Adjust the model data if needed.
  4. Save the symbol to your chosen folder in My Library.

Idea
Saving symbols with model data is ideal when you frequently reuse the same configurations.

Result: The symbol and its model code are saved together in My Library.

Linking Symbols or Model Data to My Library

When right‑clicking a symbol in the Library Explorer, you also have the option to Link to My Library.

  1. Right-click on a symbol and select Link to My Library.
  2. Select the model codes you would like to link to My Library along with the symbol.
    1. You can filter model codes by hovering over a column title and selecting the filter symbol.
  3. Select Link and choose the desired folder in My Library.

What Linking Does

  • Creates a pointer to the symbol or model data in NetSkeme Supplied Data.
  • Uses no additional storage in My Library.
  • Automatically updates when NetSkeme Supplied Data changes.
  • Displays a link icon next to linked items.

Warning
Linked items cannot be edited in My Library.

When to Use Linking

  • When you want to reference standard data without creating duplicates.
  • When you want to conserve your 1 GB storage allocation.
  • When you want to ensure your library stays synchronized with updates.

Saving Custom Symbols Created in Build Symbol Mode

Custom symbols created in Build Symbol mode can also be saved to My Library.

Notes
The full workflow for creating custom symbols is covered in a separate tutorial.
