Updating or Saving New Model Data for Symbols in My Library
After saving a symbol to My Library, you may want to update the model data associated with that symbol or save a new version of the data as a separate component. NetSkeme Plus provides two options:
- Overwrite the existing model data
- Save as New to create a separate component in My Library
This article walks through both workflows.
Overwriting Model Data for an Existing Symbol
You can overwrite the model data associated with a symbol already stored in My Library.
- In My Library, select the symbol you want to update.
- If the symbol has existing model data, select the model code to populate the symbol with that data.
- Right‑click the symbol and choose Open Property Manager.

Make any needed changes.
- For example, you might add a part number or update a property value.
- Click Save to My Library.

- Confirm that you want to continue and overwrite the existing data.

Result: The changes to the model data are saved in My Library.
Overwrite is ideal when you want to maintain a single, authoritative version of a symbol’s model data.
Saving a New Model Code to the Same Symbol
If you want to associate an model code with a symbol that's already been saved to My Library, you can save it alongside any model codes that have already been saved with the symbol.
- In My Library, Right‑click the symbol you want to update and choose Open Property Manager.
- Add the desired model data.
- In order to save a model to My Library, you must include a Model Code, Model Family, Description, and Manufacturer.
- Click Save to My Library.

Result: The new model code is saved in the same folder in My Library from which the symbol was selected, associated with the same symbol.
Saving multiple model codes with a single symbol is useful when the geometry stays the same but configurations vary.
Saving Model Data as a New Component (Save as New)
If you want to store the new model code in a different location—or keep it separate from the original—you can use Save as New.
- In My Library, Right‑click the symbol you want to update and choose Open Property Manager.
- Add the desired model data.
- In order to save a model to My Library, you must include a Model Code, Model Family, Description, and Manufacturer.
- Open the Save menu by clicking the down arrow next to Save to My Library.
- Choose Save to My Library as New.

- Create a new folder to save to, or select an existing one.
Result: The symbol and model data are saved to the chosen folder as a new component.
Save as New creates a completely separate component. Future edits to one version will not affect the other.
